E911

Madison County Emergency Operations Center seeks to provide the most effective communications possible. We shall strive to provide rapid and convenient access to public safety for the citizens of the county, or those passing through, and in a timely manner, dispatch the appropriate response to their request for assistance. We shall offer our assistance to all other agencies, when requested and within our means.
9-1-1 Dispatchers are the most important people you will never see.
All Telecommunicators are certified as Emergency Medical Dispatchers. Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) is a system of protocols based on medical priority. The system used by Madison County has been found to be successful and effective, and used by emergency agencies worldwide. EMD relies on a series of questions that assist personnel with obtaining the correct medical problem the patient is experiencing, the severity of the problem, and the ability to provide aide to the patient by phone if necessary.
Incomplete 9-1-1s
  • An incomplete 911 call occurs when a call to 911 is disconnected, abandoned, or no one speaks before the call ends. When this happens, dispatchers will attempt to call the number back multiple times to determine if an emergency exists.
  • If we are unable to make contact after multiple attempts, emergency responders may be dispatched to check on the situation. This response may include fire, EMS, and law enforcement to ensure the safety of everyone involved.
  • If you accidentally dial 911, please stay on the line and let the dispatcher know it was a mistake. Answering a call back from 911 helps prevent unnecessary emergency responses.
Tips for Calling 9-1-1
  • Stay calm and speak clearly.
  • Know your street address.
  • State the type of help needed.
  • Give all the information the dispatcher asks.
  • Stay on the line until all questions have been asked.
What happens when you call 9-1-1?
  • When you call 911, your call is answered by a telecommunicator who gathers information and dispatches the appropriate law enforcement, fire, and/or medical responders for your location.
  • When calling 911, remain calm and speak clearly. Be prepared to explain what is happening, where the incident is occurring, and provide your name, address, and phone number. Stay on the line and be ready to answer additional questions if needed.
  • Please do not hang up until the dispatcher tells you it is okay to do so.
