Helene Debris Removal Updates
In June of 2025, the County officially partnered with the State of North Carolina, transferring all Helene storm-related debris removal operations for waterway and private property to the State via the NC Smart Program. The program which is managed by North Carolina Emergency Management facilitates eligible debris removal through the state's contract.
Waterway debris removal is continuing and expected to be completed in the coming weeks under the State's contract and management.
Private Property Debris Removal (PPDR) has been delayed as the State's SMART Program is continuing to work with FEMA to assess all applications. Once approved, PPDR applicants will be contacted by the State of North Carolina prior to work occurring. Please contact NC DPS Debris Management at 828-348-1405 for application inquiries or additional questions.
