Volunteering and Stipend Programs

Volunteer or consider our stipend programs!
Research shows that volunteering and daily purpose has individual health benefits and social benefits. Benefits are also seen across all age groups, but especially in older adults.
There are so many ways you can become involved with Madison County Community Services.  We enjoy each other, our community and all the adventures awaiting us.  Consider being a part of us by volunteering, considering a stipend program or participating in our Senior Center or meal sites.
YOU are welcome for all programs. Call Angie Allison at (828) 649-2722 if you are interested in becoming a volunteer.

The SCSEP serves low-income unemployed persons who are 55 years of age or older. The program trains them in part-time community services assignments. If qualified, you may work up to 20-29 hours a week and receive $7.00 an hour. The training can open the way to full time opportunities.  Contact: Linda Stanton. Foster Grandparent Program
The Foster Grandparent Program (FGP) is a federally funded program through the Corporation of National and Community Service that provides opportunities for seniors to impact the lives of children in their community.  FGP is funded for Buncombe, Henderson, Madison and Transylvania counties.

Foster Grandparents are individuals age 55 and over who thrive on direct interaction with children and believe they can make a difference in their lives.  They serve as a mentor, tutor, and loving caregiver to children and youth with special needs.  Foster Grandparents help children develop the skills, confidence and strength to succeed in life.  Contact: Stacy Friesland at Land of Sky, (828) 251-6622.
Family Care Giver Support Program
The Family Caregiver Support Program works on a regional level to establish partnerships with caregiver service providers, caregivers, and those who interact with caregivers to leverage resources and improve and expand the available resources / services for caregivers. This program is funded by the Older Americans Act, Title III-E.  Caregivers will receive information about services and programs available to help them keep the person they care for at home.  Limited financial assistance is available for caregiver respite, which allows caregivers to take a short break from their caregiving responsibilities.  Support groups as well as workshops and training programs are available to help caregivers take better care of themselves and the person they are caring for.  Contact: Carol Mclimans at Land of Sky, (828) 251-6622.
Project C.A.R.E
Project C.A.R.E. ("Caregiver Alternatives to Running on Empty") can assist caregivers of people with dementia by providing a Family Consultant to help resolve caregiving issues. The Family Consultant can also connect caregivers with community resources and arrange funding (currently very limited) to help pay for temporary relief, known as "respite" care. Project C.A.R.E. helps reduce caregiver stress and exhaustion so that people with dementia can remain at home for as long as possible. Contact: Nancy Hogan at Land of Sky, (828) 251-6622.
