We are looking for individuals who enjoy working with animals or who would like to help the animals at the shelter. This would be done through duties that facilitate animal related projects. The work at the Madison County Animal Shelter is both challenging and satisfying. Volunteers perform an invaluable service in the operation of this unique county department.
Volunteer jobs, tasks, and opportunities:
Dog Walking: Engage with the dogs directly by providing them with exercise and mental stimulation
Animal Socialization: Choose to work with either the cats, dogs, or both and spend time with them. Time might be spent teaching them to play with toys, exposing them to new stimuli, or engaging in exercise.
Animal Bather/Groomer: This position involves bathing and grooming the animals so they look (and feel) their best.
Cleaning: Clean and sanitize the kennels, laundry, and dishes so the animals have a healthy environment.
Launderer: Blankets and towels are used daily to provide animal comfort. We need people at the shelter to collect, wash & dry blankets and towels and redistribute to animals who need extra care.
Front Desk Greeter/Kennel Greeter: Greeting and directing visitors is vital! Greet and assist customer as they enter the shelter. Are they looking for their own lost pet? Do they want to adopt a new furry family member? Help them find their way around!
Foster Care: Can you foster an animal in your home? If so, we need you! Foster homes play a vital role in helping us reduce euthanasia and give extra care to those who need it.
Repair/Maintenance: Good with tools? Like to garden? The shelter can always use repair work on the building and the grounds need care and maintenance.
Educational/Special Events: Enjoy talking to kids? Love getting in front of a classroom? We are looking for people with teaching skills to talk to kids in our community about dog bite prevention and responsible pet ownership.
Pet Adoption Events: Help an animal find a new family to love! We can always use volunteers to help set up and take dogs for bathroom breaks during events.
*You must be 16 years of age or be accompanied by an adult to volunteer.*
